My comic is composed of four episodes with each episode telling the story of a different individual and of their novel attempt to cross the Czech-German border in the area of the Bohemian forest. It thereby shows various life stories, backgrounds and motives which led these people to make the same perilous decision to escape the Communist regime.

I have used real witness accounts (taken from Luděk Navara’s book „Vorfälle am Eisernen Vorhang“) instead of fictionalising the characters and events to keep the comic close to the historical reality. These individual outcomes are representative of how hard life was for people who wanted to lead a life of freedom during the time of the Iron Curtain.
